Stunning views of the Grand Canyon of Hawai’i. Must go.

点评：100% recommend visiting this state park and driving up the Waimea canyon road. It is very well paved and marked, accessible by any car. Views of the canyon are spectacular. The road takes you from sea level up to over 4000 ft. You’ll see a beautiful waterfall among cliffs, mountains and valleys, basking in colors of green, red and earth tones. Depending on the time of day you go and current weather conditions, you experience different lighting of the canyon’s many geologic features. Morning, midday or afternoon are all perfectly great times to go with different sections of the canyon highlighted by the sun as clouds of varying size and density act as filters for this grand stage illumination. In case there is a bit of periodic rain, go anyway, nature will reward you with a fantastic rainbow spanning over the top of the mountain. Take as many photos and videos as fit on your camera, you can always edit them later. There are four built out lookouts, one of them was closed at the time we went. They all have ample parking with paved paths and few steps to a lookout platform, which is also accessible by wheelchair or with stroller along a low sloped ramp. Restroom facilities are good at each lookout. Hawaiian residents go free, the rest of us will pay by credit card only $10 per car and $5 per person for all the lookouts. You’ll find the Pay stations on each lookout’s parking lot. Besides these lookouts, there are other opportunities along the road where you can safely pull over and snap a quick picture. Drive slowly and safely for everyone’s enjoyment. Give yourself at least three hours from the start in Waimea. Towards the end of the road there is the Kōke’e lodge and museum. Check their website for latest info, they closed at 4 pm the day we went.
