点评:The whole village of Castelnaud la Chapelle is beautiful and unspoilt but the highlight is what was called the Castle but now presented as the Chateau de Castelnaud. There is a car park which was free to use in January. A short walk takes you down through the beautiful village to the ticket office for the chateau. We had out dog with us and were advised that if you can go there, so can your dog! We chose to take the more challenging route which is up through a very steep staircase into one of the towers of the chateau. There is an "easy access" option which in hindsight, might have been a better route. The rooms are well preserved but it is a bit short on notices telling you what you are looking at. That said, we really enjoyed the walk around and you can actually stand on wooden outbuilds attached to the chateau walls to get a better look at the surrounding countryside if you wish. The chateau sits on the banks of the Dordogne and the hight of the chateau provides some spectacular views of the valley and river. There is a collection of armoury and an excellent collection of trebuchet. Lovely gardens also add charm to this well worth visit.
