点评:If you are a batik lover Museum Danar Hadi in Solo, Indonesia, is a must-visit. Said to be the best batik museum in Indonesia, you will find yourself in awe of its extensive collection. Here you come to realize that batik is not just apparel or fashion, but much, much more than that. It's an art.
Sadly it is also a disappearing art, as the intricate details and motifs require utmost skills, patience and dedication in their creation, which do not really appeal to younger generations these days.
I was blown away by the beauty of batiks of bygone era. The era that no longer exists, the artisans gone, and what remains are rare pieces that you can only find in museums like Danar Hadi.
My only concern of the museum is the batik collection being displayed in open-space hall. Although the hall is temperature-controlled by air conditioning, dust may settle and time may also work its toll on the more delicate fabrics. (We were informed, though, that they rotate the collection routinely).
Allow yourself ample time to enjoy the collection, tight schedule will not work out here. Ask for Pak Gigih as your guide. His superb knowledge of batik will make your visit memorable.
