An unexpected delight well worth visiting

点评：We had an overnight stay nearby so just visited with no real expectations and were very impressed by the house with it's varied and facinating history. I just love the mix of brick / stonework and unlike many NT houses, this has lots of interesting household fixtures and furniture from various periods in it's history.
The star attraction, as others have said, are the delightful and very knowledgable room guides who brought the whole place to life. You could easily spend over half a day taking it all in.
On the cold March day we visited the grounds weren't at their best but I think they would be very impressive a little later in the year.
We arrived at opening time which was a wise move as it was getting very full when we left after having a very nice early lunch in the cafe, the outside seating would be great on a warmer day.
Don't miss visiting the nearby church, once an abbey, that also has a facinating past.
