点评：Arrived late morning, just too late for the 11.30 am guided tour.
An excellent interactive screen as you enter.
I had no idea the rich treasures which lay behind the walls. The winter deep clean must take forever, all those intricate rococco mouldings, the dust! A wonderful Guide advising much of the walls were carved wood and papermache!
The amazing marquetry inlaid cantilever staircase and upper landing floor, just stunning.
In contrast the former family apartment was bare as the NT decide how to carry it forward, the family having taken everything with them.
John the volunteer was very engaging in the Museum room, obviously passionate about the property, he deserves a special mention, as did another Gent but sadly I didn't note his name.
The Florence Nightingale connection, her sister having married into the Verney family, was fascinating, a privilege to visit her rooms and in particular see her carriage in the Courtyard, what a tale that would could tell.
It was a beautiful Autumn day. Lovely views down to the lake.
Interesting artisan shops in the courtyard, not NT, nor is the cafe, I think some reviewers missed this. I believe it's run by the Claydon Trust.
I feel some of the reviews are a little harsh. The National Trust work hard to rescue and preserve land and properties alike 'for everyone forever' and without them we would lose even more countryside and coastline to quick build houses and second homes and the like. Such renovations take time, thought and above all important decisions as to how and what to use that money on and how far conservation should go.
All in all a great day.
