Hidden gem in the Aoster valley

点评：My wife and I stayed in the next village up the valley in Gressoney la Trinite last week during our annual skiing holiday, but always take the Saturday off as the slopes gets packed with local Italians coming for the weekend.
So we where looking for somewhere to go and I had already seen this place on google,
We got the local bus from where we were staying and its not that far down the mountain, we had a good walk around Gressoney St Jean “Such a beautiful town” and found the tourist information centre and asked for directions.
It is not far from the town and is easy to walk to even in snow.
We walked up to the castle and bought our tickets and took the option to have a translator recording as they have no tour guides who speaks English. I definitely would suggest taking the translation as there is so much information you will miss if you don’t. The whole building is an absolute jewel and has been kept in a incredibly condition, the Queen Margarita who had it built had some fantastic views across the valley and she would climb with her lady in waiting up the mountains in the fashion of the day “Victorian” complete with corsets 🫣
The castle had some really modern features for its time and is decorated elegantly.
This is a must see if your in the area, can’t say anything about the gardens as it was covered in deep snow but knowing the Italians I think they will be excellent in the spring/Summer.
