Frightening night spent in Jeep in high altitude desert after breakdown

点评：I have recently returned from a three day trip with Uyuni based Flamingotravels of the Uyuni salt flats and mountains and lagoons to the south of the flats.
In my view there were serious safety failings with our trip which led to the six passengers and guide spending the second night of the tour stranded in our jeep at over 4000m in the desert awaiting rescue that did not come until the following morning.
This was because our guide gave away our spare wheel at the start of the second day to another jeep so when we had a puncture later that day, it could not be fixed and we were marooned in the high altitude desert at a precipitous angle. Immediate rescue did not materialise because we were not driving in convoy with other Flamingo vehicles, our guide had no radio to contact other vehicles (the area largely has no mobile signal) and we appeared to have veered off the main route that other vehicles took.
Rescue did arrive but not until 5am the next morning after an uncomfortable and uncertain night.
Be careful who you use for these salt flats and lagoon tours and check these basic safety procedures are being implemented.
