点评:Extremely Disappointing Customer Service
I visited the Busselton Visitor Centre today with my family, expecting a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, the attitude and customer service we received from one staff member was incredibly disappointing and, frankly, unacceptable.
When we entered, I reminded my children not to touch anything, and they behaved exactly as asked. My two-year-old spotted a Bluey book set on the top shelf and asked if he could have it. I got it down for him and explained that he wasn’t to open it until we had paid. He listened and carried it around without opening it.
When we approached the counter, my two-year-old reached up to place the book on the counter himself. Instead of simply acknowledging a small child trying to do the right thing, the staff member said:
“The counter is on this side.”
He stopped, and we moved around to the other side. He then stood beside her, holding the book out so she could scan it.
Her response, accompanied by a very obvious huff, was:
“I guess that will have to do.”
I was genuinely speechless.
This wasn’t an adult being difficult, rude or disrespectful. This was a two-year-old child trying to hand over an item that his parents were purchasing.
My children are very well mannered, and throughout the entire visit they behaved appropriately. There was absolutely no reason for a staff member to speak to a young child with that level of irritation and contempt.
I eventually asked her, “Having a bad day, are we?”
Her response was:
“I should be having my nanna nap about now.”
Everyone has bad days. Everyone gets tired. But if you’re working in tourism and customer service, taking that frustration out on customers, particularly a two-year-old child, simply isn’t acceptable.
What concerns me most is the impression this attitude creates.
I’m only visiting from Perth, but visitor centres are often among the first points of contact for interstate and international tourists arriving in a region. Staff working in these centres are effectively representing the local community and, to some extent, Western Australia.
If this is considered an acceptable standard of customer service, then something needs to change dramatically.
Busselton is a beautiful part of Western Australia and deserves to be represented by people who make visitors feel welcome, not by someone who appears inconvenienced by the presence of a two-year-old trying to buy a Bluey book.
A very disappointing experience, and unfortunately one that has left a sour taste after what should have been a simple and enjoyable family visit
