点评:Atop one of the few viewing platforms in Lightning Ridge this relic of the torrid days of copious drinking and an artistic monument that resembles a perfect site for a Hotel of Lost Dreams adjacent to the first shaft for black opal MacDonalds 6 Mile 1885.
Looking over the Coocorang Opal Fields with white mounds speckling out of the pervasive green bushes,
I am drawn to the white painted tree that stands like a silent sentinel guarding all those who came excited but left impoverished by the pure luck of unbelievable riches that is so random and nothing to do with your pointless labours in this wilderness. How appropriate is a house built of this alcoholic comforter that took the edge of depression and searing logic. It feels more like a cemetery of white crosses fading away to the distant horizon.
Inside we witness the care taken in the coloured patterns of the grog bottles as the sun lights up the walls like theatre spotlights. But just as evident is the juvenile violence with windows lacking louvres, an internal wall pushed over, a sign that says cameras have been installed to record all visitors. We still have Neanderthals roaming these historic sites. Such a shame for those who treasure the past and its relics.
I leave a note in the Visitors book inside the fridge to express my admiration for those caretakers in LR
The stone circles are reminiscent of the alien corn crop circles that captured public imagination in the 1980s.
There is such a meditative atmosphere that pervade the silence of ghosts shifting like cool breezes over this hill of memories. We didn’t stay for sunset as the rental didn’t need to be risked on the dark home leg with only car doors to guide us.
