Virginia Scenic Railway的点评
点评：Really fun day. Attendants Zach and Avery did a terrific job of keeping us supplied with (included) snacks - Route 11 chips and cookies, plus coffee and sodas. Husband had sangria, which cost a little extra. THANK YOU for serving Virginia wine on board! Nice selection from Kings Family Vineyards and Wisdom Oak Winery; I understand the choices change periodically. So important to represent local products, which they also do with the chips and cookies.
I didn't notice that you could order lunch when you bought the tickets online, so we didn't get lunch (can't order on board), but that was fine - it's only three hours. Gets hot up top in the dome car (bring shades and a hat), but we were able to move down to the dining car for the return route because no one was in it (slower day, I guess - a Thursday).
The train itself was really nice - lovely Art Deco touches, felt very authentic to its period despite its rehab.
The scenery was nice - about what you'd expect. Agriculture, distant mountains, rural towns still holding on. Pleasant and relaxing. The taped narration was just enough - told you a bit of what you were seeing, some history, etc without being too instrusive.
Well organized overall. I heard one of the staff say that the station itself is being renovated, so presumably before too long they'll have a bathroom you can use. But there are bathrooms in each train car that are perfectly fine, so it's really not a problem.
Within an easy-walking block of the station are Ox-Eye Vineyards Tasting Room, Cider from Mars, and Ramulose Ridge Vineyards Tasting Room, which makes for a fun add-on. (Check days/hours.)
