Minster Church of Saint George, Doncaster的点评
点评：Lovely piece of Neo gothic architecture by Sir George Gilbert Scott. I last visited the inside of the then parish church 66 years ago, I was baptised there, yet though I lived in the town for 17 years after that, never thought to go inside, so much did I take its prescence for granted.
Though the ravages of time and pollution from the nearby roads have left the outside a bit grungy, and the surrounding buildings are reflections of just how the skills of modern architects and builders have declined, the inside is still wonderful. It doesnt have the majestic awe inspiring size of somewhere like Lincoln or Durham Cathedral or fellow Minster York, but its still a testament to British victorian craftmanship and the skill of Scott.
The staff inside, mostly volunteers and all justly proud of the Minster, are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. If you have a spare half hour, call in and perhaps drop a coin or two in the donation box to help preserve this grand old Church.
