点评：We were so excited for a unique experience to see Glaciar Jorge Montt. This is a once in a lifetime trip. We didn’t realize how hard it would be to find a reputable company to take us but Waeskar was willing. They just said they would look for more people to ride with us because we were only 4 and they wanted 6. Later that day, the day before our anticipated trip, they told us that we needed to find the other people or else pay for their spots. Not ideal and we even asked about getting a commission if we were to spend the rest of our evening hawking for this boat. Regardless, we did find 2 more people but there was no discount and we all rushed to depart by 9am the next morning. Unfortunately, our captain was 45 minutes late. We finally departed after that delay only to find out after nearly another hour that we didn’t have any gas. We had to turn around and go back, losing another hour. When we saw how much fuel they did have to load on the boat, it is baffling how they couldn’t have realized it was missing in the first place. We also had to stop 4-5 times during the journey to refuel.
We did make it to close to the glacier, better late than never. There were some choppy waters which had everyone clutching the side of the boat and we had the aforementioned fuel stops, but we did dock near the glacier for a surprisingly good risotto, some soup and some cocktails. We did hike a bit but it wasn’t the hour we were expecting. We saw other boats getting closer to the glacier but ours did not get as close as theirs. On the way back, our guide, Tomas, kept coming to the back of the boat to drink pisco from the bottle the guests were supposed to enjoy. We made it back two hours later than expected and with the exchange rate, paid close to $900 USD for 6 people.
The boat is nothing glamorous and the experience fell short of what we would expect for that amount of money. We did get close to the glacier but I think we would have been better off with a different tour company.
