点评:The Ludwig Museum in Koblenz finds itself inside a nice historic building, specifically the Deutschherrenhaus, from the twelfth century. It's destined to house especially collections and temporary art exhibitions.
The main purpose of the Museum is to exhibit contemporary artworks. On the day I visited it, to wit, February 11th 2024, the pertinent special exhibition consisted of several paintings and a few sculptures by Spanish contemporary artists. Some of those works were interesting, such as “Homage to Zurbarán” by Gustavo Torner, or Number 396 by Antonio Lorenzo. Others were of an undeniable mediocrity, such as the “Big X” by Antoni Tàpies – as are, by the way, the great majority of his works –, or the “Warning” (Aviso) By Sarah Grilo.
In addition of the aforesaid works, the Museum houses also some outstanding artworks having been donated to it, such as a medieval statue of the Virgin, which apparently used to be part of an Annunciation monument, and other items held on a long term loan. Particularly interesting is a collection of paintings executed since the end of the Second World War, among which one by Picasso is superb.
As can be gathered from the foregoing, the visit to that Museum is well worth the while.
