A charming oasis at the gates of Maasai Mara national park

点评：The Beats of Beads Trust guest rooms are located within a flowering and beautiful oasis in the savanna.
The guest rooms are comfortable. The food is delicious, including picnic meals packed for our safaris. Eti the hostess made special efforts to accommodate dietary needs. The nights are quiet and the stars are shining bright . There’s wifi in the rooms.
We greatly enjoyed hanging out and chatting with Eti and the staff . They guided us through the traditional Beads museum, which also featured an amazing People in Africa photography exhibit. We engaged with the Maasai ladies who were showing off their merchandise on the grounds (tip: we made the mistake of buying a few trinkets from some of them, which created chaos. I recommend buying only from the museum store).
This guest house is located just a few yards away from the Maasai Mara National Park’s gates, where we experienced the most amazing and unforgettable safaris. We saw so many animals within the first 10 minutes that we thought we had nothing else to see, only to be amazed with more and different wildlife wonders over two full safari days
I highly recommend to read the hostess Eti Dayan’s book “One of Them”, which beautifully describes the Maasai culture and the author’s journey to live with them. The book can be found on Amazon and also at the museum’s gift shop.
We also enjoyed a visit at the neighboring Maasai village, whose resident villagers combine traditional and modern life styles. The village visit is commercialized, having a craft and beads market where one is encouraged to purchase local crafts. As a final tip, remember that the asking price in these local markets is exaggerated x 5-10 what is charged at the high-end hotels shops and duty free at the airport. The locals expect the visitors to bargain, and I recommend starting the bargain at 20% the asking price and ending it at 30-40% of the asking price. Always open a calculator on your phone and translate the local currency to the currency in your country. (Don’t hesitate to walk away.)

This is a highly recommended visit in an unforgettable corner of the world.
