点评:As a passenger on the Aranui 5, we visited all six of the inhabited islands of the Marquesas. On Nuku HIva, we had a full day 4WD tour of the island.
The tour started in Taiohae, the main village. Be sure to visit Tiki Tuhiva and the Cathedral of Notre Dame des Marquises.
Next, we visited Taipivai, where Herman Melville landed in 1842 and wrote his novel "Typee". You can see his memorial and visit the handicraft centre.
In the village of Hatiheu, there is an archaeological site called Tohua Kamuihei. It was a gathering place for the indigenous inhabitants. As we entered, we were entertained by the natives, who performed in front of a 900-year-old banyan tree.
After the performance, we had a tour of the archaeological site. Our guide described its many charms. There were several petroglyphs, some of which were covered by moss. They date from 1300-1500 CE.
We had lunch at a local restaurant, followed by time to walk around Hatiheu. You can admire the beach and the Catholic church.
After lunch, we continued our 4WD tour of the island. We enjoyed the views of Hatiheu Bay and the village of Hatiheu. We continued to the Baie du Controleur at Tipivai and finally we visited a lookout to see Taiohae Bay and the village of Taiohae, with my ship at the dock.
