点评:Wednesday 27th May 2026, My husband and I awoke to a very bright and hot sunny May Day. We had a breakfast of Weetabix and raspberries. Afterwards, we both went out to pick up our friend Susan in the car to go to visit Dudmaston Hall under the care of The National Trust. .
We arrived early, so we wandered around the beautiful gardens and lake and looked at the wonderful rose border with its amazing ‘Thomas A Becket’ and ‘Princess Elizabeth’ roses, whose scent was intoxicating. Whilst sitting on a bench in the sunshine I found inspiration and wrote a poem called ‘In The Rose Garden’.
Afterwards, we took the tour of the house with its entrance hall, drawing room, library and stair hallway. The rooms were lovely and light and full of interesting painting and items of interest. We then went upstairs to the bedrooms and bathroom and learned more about the history of the house and family.
We then returned downstairs by a different route and went to visit the ‘Modern Art Galleries’, within the house. Some of the art was really good along with some of the sculptures. Some of it left me cold, wondering what the point of it all was. Still art speaks to the soul for some people and not for others. The was a lady playing a piano in the gallery and this really added a nice atmosphere whilst looking at the sculptures and paintings.
Afterwards, we were all in need of refreshments, so we went into ‘The Apple Barn Café’ for beverages and cakes. We then went and sat outside in the dappled shade under an apple tree and Susan had a slice of lemon drizzle cake and a ‘Fanta’ orange drink. My husband had slice of orange and almond cake and a ‘Lemon Crush’ drink. I too, had a slice of lemon drizzle cake with a ‘Rhubarb Crush’ drink. We spent a pleasant couple of hours here talking and catching up on news and enjoying the warm sunshine.
We stayed in these lovely gardens until we collected our car from the car park at four thirty .
