点评:On arrival at Dover Castle, go to visitor centre to pay and get your wrist band. The tunnels tour is included but you’ll have to go get in the queue for the specific tunnels tour lasting 45 minutes. (There’s a separate “ambulance” tunnels tour of 25 minutes).
We were lucky enough to get James, on our tunnels your- very good “guide” whose job is to orient you through the first bit and tell you the health and safety bits, then guide you through the dark tunnels. English Heritage: I’d rather have heard more from him (personable/knowledgeable) than the range of recorded messages from the voiceover and films, but I guess it’s designed to give as many people an experience as possible in a day, and the site gets very busy.
In my experience the English Heritage humans are 100% better guides than automated voices and James was a good example. I do think the tunnels experience needs re-working now… either a “real” guide with question and answers or an “experience” eg life for the WAAFS. As it is, it’s worth a luck - you do get to go in the actual tunnels used in the War, but don’t have huge expectations from the current offering, and then you won’t be disappointed.
