点评:At just under 6 miles from car park to top, with steady climbs and a couple of steep bits on a very clear pathway this should be an easy quick walk. But the majority of the path is very rough with large stone slabs, loose boulders and stones making for slow going at times. We’re both pretty fit, regular walkers but in our 70s with arthritic knees and hips - round trip took us just over 3 hours walking (including many stops to look at the view/take photos). We were overtaken by younger fitter people able to walk much faster on rough terrain - which accounts for the different times reported in this thread.
The views at the top are simply stunning so allow plenty of additional time to just admire the view. We had a leisurely picnic, amongst many others doing the same - it’s a busy place 😂.
We came over on the car ferry to Lyness, arriving 10.30am, return ferry leaving 4.40pm. We had plenty of time for the walk, a visit to the Royal Naval Cemetery and a stop at Scapa Flow Museum for cup of tea before boarding return ferry. Both said this is such a fantastic place we’d do the walk again.
