Very poor signposting for running trail

点评：My review is purely for the running trails, I haven't been to the forest as a cyclist or walker.
My intention was to run the blue 10k route. I downloaded the map from the website and set off, following the signs. Sadly I found the route to be very poorly signposted. I found myself inexplicably back at the carpark after only 4km, decided to follow one of the hiking trails instead, then re-joined the blue running route shortly after the reservoir.
There are so many hiking and biking trails criss-crossing the forest, and several occasions where a sign for runners was needed because there was a junction, but no sign was present. I went wrong at least twice more, and had to keep stopping to consult the map, which led to a very stop-start running experience. I ended up running 14km instead of 10, and considerably more elevation gain than it should have been as well.
I found the map to be fairly useless, since it just shows the trails you should be on, not all the others that cross it, and which could be used as reference points. I passed many wooden posts with circular gaps where arrow markers ought to have been. Whether it was poor maintenance or vandalism, I don't know.
It was £6 for me to get in (would have been £2 per person on top of that for passengers as well, if I'd had any). I am not averse to paying for access to well-maintained trails and facilities, but this was very far from that and I really resented that entrance fee today.
I don't think I will be back. The only way I would consider it would be if I had a GPX file to follow on my watch, but that really defeats the object of paying for use of a waymarked trail doesn't it, if I have to create my own map to follow?!
