点评：Trip didn’t start well and it didn’t end well. Diving was great, however comfort and safety are of concern.
The onboarding process was excessively long, uncomfortable, and repetitive. It took a total of six hours with multiple check-ins. Passengers were kept waiting in crowded, stuffy rooms, out in the heat on the sidewalk waiting for transport, and again on the ship. Everyone was exhausted and unable to relax until after 11 p.m. This process is in major need of organization and streamlining.
Diving is done from tenders, and you’re required to remove your gear in the water. The crew pulls it up into the tender, often causing anything clipped to your BCD to get ripped off. My friends lost a GoPro, name tags, flashlights, and a dive computer this way. There were no warnings or apologies for this routine practice. Avoid clipping anything to your gear that you want to keep.
Socorro is a military-controlled island with limited civilian access. While there is a chamber on the island, it is not regularly staffed. The airstrip can only be used during clear, daylight hours. This means that in the event of a medical emergency or diving accident, immediate assistance may not be available. The diving conditions were challenging but manageable, and the big marine life was truly impressive. I'm grateful for the experience, but I wouldn't choose to do it again on the Belle Amie.
