How dare we announce ourselves without a booking…

点评：**Do the owners of Nga Waka know this is happening?**
We arrived at Nga Waka around 1pm on a Saturday, a group of 8 starting out our biking self guided tour of the hospitality (so we thought) of the Martinborough wine trail.
After an incredible hour and half at Palliser, we thought why not go next door and try Nga Waka.
We did not have a booking, but thought we would just ask if they could fit us in - and wow, did we get told rudely that they would not. The guy who “greeted” me looked me up and down when I asked if we could come in for a tasting. Then started on a rant that lasted at least 2 full minutes, saying they were VERY busy, absolutely NOT, that turning up with a group at lunchtime of COURSE they could not possibly serve us wine before 2.30pm and did I know that we would NEVER be admitted anywhere else in Martinborough without bookings… and then simply said goodbye.
To be honest we thought maybe we had made a mistake and were meant o book everywhere and were pretty disheartened. However, we went next door to Tiwaiwaka and were warmly greeting and had a fantastic time, then went on to three others where we were welcomed with smiles and great hospitality - without a booking.
So don’t expect to arrive at Nga Waka and be welcomed by friendly staff. Just the opposite. So don’t bother going. As some of you will know, you bump into familiar groups on bikes at the vineyards we proceeded to tell them to not bother going there either.
Based on this experience no one in our group will ever visit again, buy Nga Waka wine, or ever recommend them to anyone. We will all be sure to spread the word, and so will our friends and family who were equally surprised by our experience.
To the owners, maybe you need to take a look at who is running your front of house, it’s costing you customers.
We were just a group of friends wanting to drink and buy wine.. Apparently there are better places for that within 20metres on either side of you.
