A gem of a house and charming owners!

点评：Seend Historic Houses Club, visit on Wednesday 22nd October. There were 15 of us booked for a tour and tea in the afternoon, luckily the weather was fine so Carey and Simon (Parade House owners) met us outside the house so they could explain some of the architectural features and point out how the house was developed and gentrified over the centuries. Then inside for the tour... Carey first explained how they came to purchase the property three years ago, almost on a whim, being immediately attracted to the place - you could understand why, it has a charm all of its own that reels you in as soon as you enter the front door and are met by the spendour of the hall and stairs. Both Carey and Simon were full of historical information, particularly regarding the family who took the building over in the 17th century and then of course the Usher (brewery) family, who eventually owned the whole run of grand properties running down the incline from Parade House. Beautiful downstairs rooms the two at the rear holding many fascinating items from the house's history and explanatory information boards which you could read at leisure. Upstairs the ballroom spans the whole width of the house and was set out for cream teas the following Sunday. You can see why it makes a lovely venue to hold a wedding party, the ceremony being held in one of the downstairs rooms and the celebrations upstairs. After the interesting and amusing tour we were invited to take tea and cake in the basement rooms - recently refurbished and very comfortable. From here you could take a peak at the cinema room, intimate and quite comfortable with a very classy loo to one side. All in all a really enjoyable experience which went down very well with the Club members, who are well versed in the art of guided tours, this one was highly praised by all. Thank you Carey and Simon for giving us a super afternoon, we would recommend the experience to anyone who asked!
