Beautiful - however the population of butterflies is declining - July 2025.

点评：The Valley of the Butterflies in Rhodes ... last year we've returned after 10 years since the last visit, and things did changed.
Now the scenery it is still serene and beautiful , the forest around the valley it is offering the shade that we new - so the walk on the paths - regardless if you go upwards or downwards from the entry point - it is beautiful.
The billions of butterflies? - now that number did decay - if 10 years ago there were literally billions flying around you, and at a certain point of the valley the swarming little creatures were also resting on your shoulder or clothes, those times are gone... you will see hundreds / potentially thousands of butterflies on rocks of the valley and some tree tucks ( 10 years ago most of the tree trunks were covered in butterflies) ...
Don't know if the decay of their numbers is due to increased number of visitors, if is due to the fires that were present on the island in the past years ( in 2023 the line of the wild fire was only stopped like 2-3 km from the valley of the butterflies) ... or is just a natural phenomenon ... However it is certain, there were way less butterflies than I remembered ...
Is it beautiful? Yes! Is it nice to visit? Yes! - as a walking area it is still great , but keep in mind that if you have mobility restrictions the paths in the forest are not accessible. Also you will have to climb ... no matter what path will you take.
Will you see billions of butterflies? No!
Is it worth visiting? if you've never been - Definitely! If you want to revisit - it is up to you - for me , to be honest I was just a bit disappointed.
