点评:Whilst the whole museum is not as big as I thought it would be, for the fee it was fine. The big draw is of course Trincomalee, ex-Foudroyant which was restored after being towed from Portsmouth Harbour many years ago. This is a fascinating glimpse of Nelson’s navy (although I do feel HMS Victory in Portsmouth trumps Trincomalee, not least due to its size) .
The Fighting Ships display is good but in some ways haphazard: going around in a party, we were all uncertain as to what we should have been doing in moving from one section to the next. The recorded narration, maybe, could be edited so that the voice says ‘follow me to the next section’ with associated lighting to guide the party? Whilst in the end we did kind of get the idea, the first 2-3 times we were all stood there all looking at each other not really knowing what to do or where to go. If you do take the tour, consider very young children: whilst there’s nothing scary per se, some sections might be unsettling for some with the dioramas and battle noises etc.
