点评：I recently joined a tour led by Claire Leow, whose work I first encountered through her book WW2 Bukit Brown. It was a pleasure to finally meet her in person. Claire’s deep familiarity with the Bukit Brown Cemetery was evident as she expertly guided us through dense undergrowth to the graves of prominent figures, navigating the terrain with ease.
What set her tour apart wasn’t just her knowledge of the site, but the vivid anecdotes she shared. Rather than simply pointing out graves and explaining their features, Claire brought the stories of those buried there to life, adding depth and context that greatly enriched my understanding and appreciation of the place.
Thanks to her, I now have a much clearer sense of Bukit Brown’s historical and cultural importance, and its vital role in preserving Singapore’s heritage. I wholeheartedly recommend Claire’s tour to anyone with an interest in our nation's history. And if the thought of trekking through thick foliage under the blazing sun seems off-putting, rest assured—any discomfort was far outweighed by the enjoyment and insight gained during the tour.
