First Visit to Pitzhanger 26/09/2024
Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery的点评
点评：Our interest was sparked by an Antiques Roadshow programme that mentioned the Grayson Perry exhibition which sounded interesting in its own right. Already on our bucket list of places to visit, Pitzhanger accelerated up the list after this wonderful free publicity! Had no trouble finding the location as it is clearly marked on maps, whether paper or online! However, we agree that it would be of great benefit to Ealing’s main tourist attraction for better signposting, including strategically placed brown road signs on the main approaches to Ealing by road. We also took the precaution of checking that all was open, following disappointments elsewhere (arising from incorrect data online) on outings to other museums and galleries.
The lifts were still out of order but otherwise the visit was well worthwhile and we were not disappointed, despite appalling weather. The Manor House is well worth seeing in its own right, despite the lack of original furnishings and we found the staff very helpful. The Grayson Perry Vanity of Small Differences exhibition was much enhanced by watching the introductory video as suggested by reception and the gallery itself in the former library is a very impressive place. Good explanatory material throughout . Good shop for souvenirs of whatever is featured in the Gallery. Despite the bad weather, it was flooded with natural light. Pitzhanger was very much an unexpected treat, but a shame that the bad weather precluded a visit into Walpole Park.
If you are travelling by car, on-street parking is difficult because of 2 hour limit so best to use The Broadway shopping centre car park where charges are reasonable. We used a Just Park location in nearby Grange Road which was worth the slightly higher cost for an afternoon’s trouble-free stay. Beware delays on the North Circular if you have no option but to use it! We had to return home via Central London after queuing for an hour and getting nowhere!
