点评:We are National Park geeks, with plans to see them all. We're almost halfway there and this trip included ISRO, which was very different than any other, just based on the journey to get there. We took the ferry out of Grand Portage, and stayed at the Rock Harbor Lodge. Be sure to read up on the transportation and what to expect when you get there - everything was spot on. We're day hikers - not day trippers, not backpackers - and we were able to do a few nice hikes to see only a tiny sliver of the island in and around the Rock Harbor area. We did the sunset boat tour to Raspberry Island, which was a nice little diversion. But sitting by the shore, with a nice breeze, or sitting in our room by the open windows, watching the water and the animals was worth it alone. Despite being in the "busy area" that some people probably hate about this park, it's so very nice to have it for those of us not able or not willing to rough it as much as others. It's eerie, taking the long trek there, and knowing you are so remote. Park Rangers said it might be one of the least visited national parks, but it's the most REvisited. I'd believe it. Totally worth the effort of staying for a few days. If you want to book the lodge, do it very early - it opens for reservations exactly one year in advance of your check in date. We chose to go earlier in the season and were happy with that choice - it was mostly dry and bugs were "just starting" to show up, according to employees. Our $4 head nets worth about $40! Long pants, long sleeves and those nets meant we ended up with only 3 bug bites - all three of which were on our hands (the only exposed skin!). Great accommodations, food, sightseeing, hiking. Almost "glamping", if you will, when staying at Rock Harbor. Overall, worth the adventure and I can see the lure for some to go back and see more!
