Natural zoo with fresh air and beautiful surroungings

点评：Been to Ähtäri Zoo twice in the past one year, and it was always a delightful experience, offering a wonderful glimpse into the natural world in a peaceful and photogenic forest setting. Although the famous giant pandas are no longer part of the zoo, visitors now have the exciting opportunity to see the charming spectacled bear — a rare and fascinating, energetic species.
One of the highlights of my visit was the feeding of the Finnish brown bears, a truly impressive event where you can observe these powerful animals up close in their naturalistic habitat. It’s both educational and entertaining, especially for families and nature enthusiasts.
During the summer months, the zoo’s ice cream kiosk was a perfect place to take a break. The ice cream was very delicious, and there was even a gluten-free cone option available — a small but thoughtful detail that makes the visit even more enjoyable. Also gluten-free cake was found in the zoo’s restaurant.
Overall Ähtäri Zoo continues to offer a memorable and heartwarming Finnish wildlife experience for visitors of all ages. The beard lichen growing on the trees tells about the extremely good air quality to breath in the zoo and the region. Coming from a big city, I wouldn’t mind visiting this most natural zoo in Finland yearly, combined with a stay in neighbouring hotel. Read more about it in my blogs!
