点评:This palace is a lot more spectacular than what it looks like from the outside. You can only visit via a tour which is engaging and littered with lots of interesting historic facts and little details. You slide around on stunning parquetry floors in felt shoes and get a real feel for the history of the place and the characters/families who lived here. The restorations were done beautifully and a lot is still in its original splendour, lots of historic art and pieces. The tour guide also managed to link in Berlin's history and other castles for context. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and walk in the gardens. The nearby pyramid was used as a chiller. The old temple ruins were the kitchen, the urn in the garden holds the ashes of the 8 year old who perished and which was recovered by divers in the lake. There is a grotto and a ferry terminal nearby. This visit and Cecilienhof 15 min walk away make for a great 3-4 hour visit. Do Sanssouci/Neues Palais another day.
