A fine piece of potted history, well worth a visit
Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve的点评
点评:This one is located a bit out of town to the north of Alice, so you will need a car or, if blessed with a fine winter day at reasonable temperature as we were, take the 40-minute walk along the riverside path along the Todd Riverbed to get here.
The web site detailed an introductory talk starting at 9.30AM and 11.30AM and we time our walk to be here in time for a cup of coffee in the small café on site before joining the latter talk given by a long-time volunteer in front of the Blacksmiths Shed.
Then we self-guided ourselves around the collection of out buildings dating from the 1871 original build. The Barracks houses an excellent information board collection giving the history of the place and the people who lived here, and you should do this first before moving onto the other out houses that are set up internally as they would have been back in the day.
I thought it was well worth the entrance fee ($16.10 for adults) and especially as we qualified for the $13 concession price and you get a lot of history for that.
As we were on foot we did this as a double with the Alice Springs School of the Air Visitor Centre, which is about a 35-minute walk away, mostly along the footpath net to the Herbert Heritage Drive, before getting a cab back to town.
