It features galleries such as the Forest Gallery, which serves as a living heart to the museum, and the Science and Life Gallery, where visitors can marvel at everything from ancient dinosaurs to the intricacies of the human body.
Exhibitions, such as "The Melbourne Story," bring the city's history to life through recreations of past environments and stories of its people.

The Galloway Hoard is a remarkable hoard of Viking-age treasures, dating to around AD 900, that includes a diverse collection of silver objects such as bullion, arm-rings, and a rare Anglo-Saxon cross, as well as gold items and a unique silver-gilt vessel from the Middle East. It was likely buried for safekeeping during a period of political and social upheaval. The hoard is a singular window into a world of interconnectedness, revealing the complex relationships between different peoples and the far-reaching trade routes of the time.
