Go there: exhibition from Museum Berggruen: Cézanne etc.
澳洲国立美术馆的点评
点评：It's a commonplace that travelling exhibitions are heralded by the names of iconic modernist artists such as Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, otherwise no-one would go to see them and the tortuously expensive exercise of touring masterworks wouldn't adequately recompense the huge effort involved, on many levels. Fortunately for Australia, the Museum Berggruen in Berlin is renovating and we are the beneficiaries. In a coup that Sydney and Melbourne must be envious of, Canberra is the sole Australian venue.
I nearly didn't go but I cleave to private collections -- as this was originally -- and I happened to be in Canberra at the time (early June), so I caught it: I'm glad that I did. It was excellent: a good hang; the NGA's permanent collection was subtly dovetailed in, as well as modernist Australian artists -- a clever move. I didn't like the red room, though -- it was excessive, pandering to inclusiveness, and ultimately unnecessary however much one appreciates Inge King's sculpture.
I'm not mad on blockbusters, but is this a blockbuster? Not sure, maybe a bijou blockbuster? Fortunately, not many people were there. This is a rare opportunity. Take it. There are pictures that you would otherwise never see, and it's a fabulous and varied assemblage of Paul Klee's work.
But try not to get tangled up with the invariably officious, petty and precious NGA personnel who clearly have been briefed to accost anyone, on the slightest pretext, who doesn't have a job there.
You must check in larger bags by yourself in a designated locker room.
You are permitted to take photos.
