点评:The National Gallery of Australia used to be iconic. The leaking roofs and ongoing refurbishment now make it feel more like a construction zone than a space to appreciate fine art. There are a few masterpieces still on display but many minor artists and lots of negative space. There is a sense of emptiness in some of the rooms with exhibition spaces closed or under refurbishment. The international art collection is sparse and oddly displayed, a far cry from the institution’s foundational vision to bring great art to the people. Visiting is not pleasant. We found the staff, including the guards and cafe workers, to be unhelpful and occasionally rude. Not sure why this culture is present but it makes visitors feel unwelcome. If time is short on your visit to Canberra, then consider giving the gallery a miss. Instead, visit some of the truly great institutions in the city like the War Memorial or the National Museum. The NGA has a long way to go to match these icons in terms of visitor experience.
