点评:This temple is said to be the origin of the Maneki-neko, or the 'beckoning cat'. It's a pleasant story, and cat lovers such as myself would enjoy a visit here. I went there early, around 8:30am and there weren't many people there and could stroll around quite peacefully around the grounds. It's a bit out of the way, it took three train transfers of just over an hour to get there, but it was worth it. To be honest, i was glad to get away from the hordes of people in the main city centres of Tokyo, which i found pretty stressful.
There is a gift shop with numerous items for sale. It has an interesting system where you place your order for what items you want via a vending machine outside. You're given little slips of paper and you take them inside to get your items. They have beckoning cats of various sizes, as you'll see from the photos. Be aware though that although they do have a Goshuin available, it's not done personally but rather it's a print. I was momentarily disappointed by this, but it still makes for a pleasant addition to your Goshuincho.
What made the experience a little more unique was there was a film crew there at the time. I've no idea what was being filmed though. I was led through the set between takes by a security guard, to the back area where the main grounds and gift shop are.
