We recently visited the Koala Sanctuary in Pennant Hills and were extremely disappointed, especially compared to our last visit in 2015. Unfortunately, the sanctuary appears to have gone significantly downhill.
The enclosures were poorly maintained, and many of the animals looked visibly stressed or depressed, which was heartbreaking to see. What used to be a vibrant and well-kept space now feels neglected.
The staff showed little interest in the visitors – instead of engaging or offering assistance, they stood around chatting amongst themselves. There was supposed to be a "koala talk," which we were looking forward to, but it never happened and there was no explanation given.
Basic hygiene was also a concern. The hand wash stations near the animal feeding areas had empty soap bottles, which is not acceptable – especially in a setting where visitors are interacting with animals.
Overall, it was a very disappointing and sad experience. We hope the sanctuary takes these issues seriously and works on improving the welfare of the animals and the overall visitor experience
