点评:Washington-on-the-Brazos is marketed as the Philadelphia of Texas. It's where Texans during the Texas Revolution created a short-lived country that was later annexed by the United States and granted statehood.
Unfortunately, the state historic site is mostly devoid of anything to see and do because a renovation has closed the museum since 2023. It's not supposed to reopen until October 2025.
There's a small trailer with a makeshift gift shop and a few interpretive placards.
Other than that, there's a reproduction of the wood frame building where the constitutional convention met. It's open but on the day I visited there was no docent or interpreter. There's also a plantation but that was closed when I visited.
All things considered, it has tremendous potential. Unfortunately, it's mostly unrealized. I suspect it will be until 2026 before the museum truly reopens.
