Nice park! History, Views, and Nature.
San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site的点评
点评:We had a great time. There is the monument, a museum, and the grounds. The obelisk is taller than the Washington Monument and you can take an elevator to the top. Once there you can see downtown Houston, the Houston ship channel, and get view the bayous from above.
There is a movie that describes the historical events that led up to this battle and its significance. This battle was significant as if it had not been won, Texas and much of what we now call the USA would perhaps be Mexico. The Texans were the underdogs, but clever decisions and determination allowed them to defeat the Mexicans in less than 20 minutes.
Next we toured the museum on the ground floor which was loaded with artifacts and interesting displays. There is also a gift store and restrooms. Staff was friendly and helpful.
We decided to check out the marsh trail. This is a boardwalk through the marsh that needs some maintenance. The reward was seeing birds, fish, turtles, dragonflies, flowers and even wild boar. The people on the trail before us saw otters eating crabs but we didn't. I would suggest wearing bug spray as there are lots of mosquitos.
We went on a Sunday. It was not crowded and plenty of parking.
