点评:Located in Savannah’s Historic District, Forsyth Park is the city’s oldest and largest (at 30 acres) public park. It is bordered by Gaston Street to the north, Drayton Street to the east, Park Avenue to the south and Whitaker Street to the west. My wife and I visited the park several times during May 2025.
Forsyth Park is named after the 33rd governor of the state of Georgia. At its northern edge sits its most famous landmark, the fountain – most visitors will recognize it immediately, as it appears on virtually every brochure or video about Savannah. As you make your way south down the tree-lined center walkway, you will see a playground, the Collins Quarter at Forsyth restaurant, a Civil War monument, huge areas of green space and, eventually, tennis and basketball courts. The park is ringed with large oak trees with Spanish moss, along with many historic residences.
One of the days we visited was on a Saturday, so we were able to experience their Farmers Market, with the entire central walkway lined with produce and food vendors, as well as all manners of artisans displaying their work. It was a bustling environment with lots of positive energy.
One of the great things about Forsyth Park is that it’s not simply a tourist attraction. While you will certainly see tourists at the park, it is also a vibrant community hub with many locally focused sports and events taking place there. A stroll through Forsyth Park is a great way to get a sense of what life in Savannah is like.
