点评：The Alnwick Garden: An Unexpectedly Incredible Day Out
I originally planned my visit to Alnwick solely to see the Poison Garden, not realising it was part of the much larger Alnwick Garden experience. What a wonderful surprise! While the £20 entrance fee initially felt a bit steep, it turned out to be excellent value for money.
The gardens themselves are absolutely stunning and far exceeded all expectations. We spent four hours exploring and could have easily stayed longer. From the elegant cherry orchard and dramatic water features to the rich variety of plant displays and great dining options, there’s something to delight everyone—families, couples, and nature lovers alike.
A particular highlight was the Poison Garden tour. Our guide, Carol, was fantastic—engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the subject. In just 20 minutes, she took us through a fascinating collection of the world’s most dangerous plants, blending storytelling with important safety insights. It was both educational and eye-opening, especially when we recognised toxic species we’d seen in everyday settings. Be sure to look out for the infamous Gympie-Gympie plant!
The Poison Garden is included in the general admission, and honestly, the tour alone justifies the ticket price. Booking online is recommended for a discount and instant access. We’ll definitely be returning—next time adding a visit to the nearby castle as well.
