Alnwick, Poison Garden FIRST!

点评：We had one day in Alnwick (say “Ah-nick” as in “Panic”) which was NOT enough. We had a full tour of the castle in the morning & lunch, & left the second half of the afternoon for the garden.
Let me tell you it was NOT enough!
If you have a full or nearly full day it would be MUCH better!
The garden is really quite incredible!
We sat with coffee watching the fountain and admiring the giant hedge on either side, which on closer inspection is a giant curving passageway of green!
There are dozens of “porch swings”hanging in the Cherry Orchard which MUST be jam packed when they are in full bloom.
The formal garden is exquisite, an ever changing composition of color & clever use of plants (one square bed is surrounded by a living fence of interwoven crabapple trees)
We missed half of the garden (the Rose garden & the Bamboo Labyrinth sadly) but I wanted to see the Poison Garden before we left as I’d read about it years ago.
However when we arrived (nearly 4:30) we were told the last tour was at 4:00 and it wasn’t possible to walk through on you’re own as.. well.. the plants are SERIOUSLY dangerous!
I was just crushed and didn’t realize there was a limited window and we were leaving the next morning. Then the wonderful Phillip came to our rescue and gave us an abbreviated tour, enough to give us nightmares for days and suffice it to say I will NOT be working in my garden without gloves anytime soon!
(& I seem to have developed a fear of cow-parsley and hogweed!, even though they only vaguely resemble their nasty big cousin!)
If you’re going to Alnwick, make the Garden AND the Poison Garden your FIRST stop

然而，当我们到达时（将近4:30），我们被告知最后一次参观是在4:00，而且我们无法独自参观，因为……嗯……这些植物真的非常危险！
我当时非常沮丧，没有意识到参观时间有限，而且我们第二天早上就要离开了。后来，好心的菲利普来帮我们解围，给我们做了一次简短的参观，这足以让我们做好几天的噩梦，而且我敢说，我以后再也不会不戴手套在花园里干活了！
（我好像开始害怕欧芹和大豕草了！虽然它们和它们讨厌的大表亲长得有点像！）
如果你要去阿尼克，一定要把花园和毒药花园作为你的第一站。
