A Great House
Casa Grande Ruins National Monument的点评
点评：I drove down to Coolidge to see the Great House up close and learn a little more about those who built and lived there.
Given the number of layoffs at the NPS it was nice to see so many rangers on site to provide tours and answer questions.
The museum was small but had a good mix of artifacts, explanatory boards about the people and the site. So amazing that the “mud” used to construct the site and the multi story Great House was robust to last over 700 years! Too bad it was abandoned after just 100 years but climate change impacted the peoples lives just like we are seeing today.
The house itself was only available to walk around but there were doors and windows that allowed some peeking inside. I could read the graffiti on the inside walls that started in the 1800s when people first heard about this place and the nearby stagecoach and train station brought them close. Luckily Casa Grande was designated as a historic place and repairs and excavations took place to protect it.
