Great mine train, staff all friendly & helpful but the chocolate activity was shambolic and the quay artefacts run down.

点评：I really went for the mine train (which I don't remember at all from my previous visit 20 years ago. It was excellent, the mine was nicely decorated and the driver was really friendly.
Other staff were also friendly and helpful: the shop where you checked in on arrival, the blacksmith busy making things and keen to show off his work, and "Mrs. Claus" supervising the chocolate making activity. I timed my visit to the chocolate activity just right when it was empty (I wasn't that bothered about doing it, but thought I might as well). On return 15 minutes later to collect my creation as advised there was an enormous queue, some people waiting to do the activity and others waiting to collect. Then a girl was sorting through dozens of bags to find our creations, I suspect most were peoples' who had given up waiting earlier in the day! It took about 20 minutes to collect the creation that had taken about 5 minutes to make!
The historig quay area is quite a mess, the odd interpretation board or plaque, one about the canal outlines an interesting soundign walk which is closed off. Other display boards in buildings with nothing in them except for the odd bit of junk. The boat is in a bad state and the overhead railway lines are partially collapsed. The historic quay was I think always a bit of a niche attraction, and the vast amount of effort and funds needed for its upkeep are probably not viable, hence effort are focussed on the mine train and the new soft play facility, which is a new, easily maintained building.
