点评:Very surprised that this ranch is so uniformly rated at 5 stars, considering. My mum and I did a day trek about a week ago with them. When we turned up, we were the only ones, the ranch was a warm family-run business and we thought things were off to a good start.
When we started, however, they used a guide horse that was a young four-year-old highly reactive Arabian that spooked four times as soon as we started the trek, and our horses were reacting in response. This is highly unusual because guide horses are usually calm and steady and well-familiar with the trail, not meant to set off the entire group considering horses are herd animals. Considering most tourists are beginners and my mum and I are relative beginners - she has only been on trail rides and I have only had 6 months of lessons - this was wholly inappropriate at best and outright dangerous at worst especially considering Cappadocia’s terrain. Luckily we knew the route from a previous horse trek with Daltons Brothers (a more professional experience for us), and we knew there is one portion with a very steep downward slope and sheer cliff drop on one side and no allowance for mis-step. If a horse fell, it would go down the cliff.
My mum became anxious about the ride, told me her horse felt restless and a little limp-y, and she was unable to control her, and she became worried about the possibility of the horses spooking at the cliffs section and we said we were happy to only do the ride at the wider section for the two hour trek time and still have them keep the full fees. It took some convincing because they seemed determined to have us do the full trek, assuring us everything would be fine, but upon insisting for the fifth time, they went with our requests. The ranch took away the Arabian guide horse and the guide went on foot with us which we really did appreciate. He did want us to have a good time and kept taking photos for us.
On our way back, at one hour into the supposed two hour ride, on a wide, very gentle slope, practically flat ground, my mum’s horse lost her footing, and fell straight over on the ground; my mum saw the horse falling and yanked her foot from the stirrups and managed to jump clear to avoid being crushed. Thankfully she wasn’t injured but we still get chills over if the same had happened over the cliffs if we had done the trail as they asked. In hindsight, my mum’s horse likely had some leg pain or perhaps had poorly maintained shoes and was agitated; it is highly unusual for a horse to fall over such gentle ground for no reason. Our guide apologised profusely, and took us back in a van to their ranch where we were met with their family tea and everything was warm and inviting where it felt socially awkward to criticise. They were all very caring which made it all the more surprising that refund was never mentioned considering our two hour trek ended at one hour. It genuinely felt a little manipulative. And in hindsight, there were other red flags. Initially with the riding helmets, they wanted to give my mum a helmet that was loose on her head and were impatient when she said it was too big, and I was left alone to find a well-fitting helmet for her.
When we got back to our hotel, we asked the guide to come in to the hotel reception where the owner had recommended them, and the owner had later told us they lied and said my mum’s horse didn’t fall over and that she decided to jump from her horse. We asked for half to be refunded as a professional gesture, not even just about the money, considering our trek was only half finished. After a long back and forth, they reluctantly refunded 20 euros out of 70 and said it was half, and we left it at that because we realised they cared more about the money than their business and reputation. This is genuinely the most unprofessional, insincere and dangerous horse trek we had ever been on with red flags literally every step of the way.
