怀特岛蒸汽火车的点评
点评：The train trip itself isn't very long : we went from Havenstreet to Wootton bridge, hopped off and walked to the excellent Woodman's Arms for lunch, and then got back on the train, went back through Havenstreet to Small Brook Junction and back again to Havenstreet. The 3rd class carriages were excellent and very comfortable, and although the car park was packed, the trains themselves didn't feel too busy, presumably because people were spread about the various stations. At Wootton Bridge, we got to see the engine move from the front to the back of the train.
The museum at Havenstreet is excellent : I'm not really a train buff, but I found the restoration of the trains, and the old carriages in various states of repair fascinating, and it was interesting to learn about the history of the railways on the Isle of Wight, and how this line was saved. There's a lovely cafe at Havenstreet with indoor and outdoor seating.
Just a couple of things: we'd checked the website and bought tickets on line before hand, but the trains were running to a different timetable than the one on the website, which meant we were then stuck on the wrong platform when our train arrived and almost weren't allowed back across. Also, there was quite a long wait on the train at Havenstreet. Otherwise, this was a really enjoyable day out. Suitable for all ages and all weathers.
