A wonderful day at a quintessentially English stately home.
巴塞尔顿公园的点评
点评：A beautiful, quintessentially English Stately Home, Basildon Park is a real jewel in the National Trust crown, and is a gorgeous way to spend a day. I started with a woodland walk with one of the estate rangers and a small group of other guests. This was a 2 hour walk around the estate, with the ranger pointing out lots of the unique flora and fauna, and many of the landmarks that I might otherwise have missed. A great start to the day.
A quick break in the refreshment area where light cooked meals, good range of sandwiches and cakes and hot and cold drinks were available (also must mention the exceptionally clean rest rooms), then I headed into the house for a self guided tour. In each room is a small folder with containing an overview of the room and looks of detailed information about specific artefacts and room decor.
I must mention the National Trust staff - as always at NT properties they were without exception friendly and welcoming with a genuine enthusiasm for the house and its history. Towards the end of the tour I could detect the enticing aroma of hot sausage rolls (yum !) and the tour actually ends back in the tea room.
Then, my day continued back outside in the formal garden area, and further views of the exterior of the house. After taking a few photos I made my way back to the visitor centre and had a quick browse in the well stocked gift shop. The end to a perfect day.
