A very interesting and enjoyable winter visit.

点评：We visited on a Sunday in November and were surprised to find the car park to be full. Thankfully we were given permission to park in the coach turning area. The relief car park is closed during winter months. It is a relatively short walk from the car park to the house. There were signs that a buggy was available to transfer the less mobile between the car park reception and the cafe/shop area and the house but we did not see it in action during our visit.
The tour of the house is self guided at visitors own pace but as we have come to expect from the National Trust there are numerous room guides who are ready and willing to provide information about the history of the building and it's occupants across the years. Many thanks to those we spoke to for enhancing our experience. For younger and some not so young such as us there are mice hidden throughout the property to search for during your visit.
Photography is permitted in the house provided that a flash is not used.
Opposite the house are the walled gardens in places utilizing the walls of derelict buildings. The walled gardens consist of various sections including lawns, a kitchen garden, a cherry tree garden, a wisteria canopy, a rose garden, and proving very popular a paved maze. I would like to have seen more labelling identifying plants, particularly in the kitchen garden.
The 'cowshed' tea rooms were very busy during our visit. We were going to have a hot drink but due to the lack of seating we didn't. Near to the tea rooms is a shop and toilet facilities. Picnic tables are also available for visitors use. A small 'book nook' has second hand books for sale at reasonable prices. Payment is made at the nearby shop.
There are woodland walks, where dogs are welcome, and a children's play area.
