Disappointed even though we pre booked tickets not able to travel

点评:As it's the school holidays we booked our tickets im advance, even booking the 12 noon jorney. On the conformation email it recommends turning up 30 minutes before your chosen departure, we arrived 40 minutes prior and collected our tickets.
By the time we had crossed the bridge to platform 2 the train was full, no seats available apart from a whole carriage for a bus trip, which we were told if they didn't turn up we could use that carriage.
The guards on the platform, were less than helpful advising us to walk the length of the train and find seats. They then suggested that as we are a family of 5 with three young children we split up into various different carriages including the children sitting without adults. Our only alternative was to get a refund and not travel. We were not the only ones treated this way.
It was explained when we got back to the ticket office, that even though we had pre booked, they sell more tickets than there are seats for the journeys. Followed by its a reduced length train, followed by they have no way on the system to book a seat or restrict the number of bookings per day. We should just wait 2 hours for the next train or stand.
No one was helpful, understanding and actually appeared to care about the customer. Very disappointed with three upset children.
