点评:Gawthorpe Hall is a small hall and doesn't take much more than an hour to an hour and a half to walk round. The gardens, woodlands (including Tipping Hill Woods), children's play area and pond are well worth a walk. The hall is impressive from the outside with beautiful architecture. The inside of the hall is well maintained, all staff members are polite and very knowledgeable. Please do ask them questions, they know the facts and some varying myths and stories were the facts are not clear.
I do think the think the hall would benefit from some extra information boards both inside and outside, about its history and some of the other rooms to be set up as they would have been back in the days of an active house. Pity you cannot go on the roof.
The first floor, gives an insight into the local textiles of the day and how the then owners played a part in the local textile industry. There are a couple of children's areas to play and dress up.
Things to note:
- Do check opening hours as they vary and the Hall closes during the winter months.
- There is no onsite cafe. On a dry day, take a picnic. There is plenty of space in the gardens and woodlands area to have a picnic.
- There was a coffee van there on the day I visited but I’m not sure if that is there all the time.
- Car Parking is free and toilets are available.
