点评:We did the 2 day / 1 night visit to the ECC and stayed in a Forest House (with private bathroom). The Centre is completely elephant-centric, as it should be - no physical contact with the elephants, no riding, the elephants are with their mahouts all the time. But you get a lot of "elephant time", watching them being fed and bathing and socialising in as natural a way as possible. Sometimes you are at close quarters, for example following them through the forest. Sometimes you observe from more of a distance, from a viewing platform. Our excellent guide, Mr Lar, imparted a great deal of information about the elephants and the work of the Centre. We also got talks from a resident vet on elephant anatomy and health. The whole experience was very inspiring and absolutely memorable.
The Centre is in a beautiful, peaceful setting on the lake surrounded by forest. Our accommodation was simple but comfortable enough and the food was excellent.
The one thing to watch out for - and this is not the ECC's fault - is that the road from Luang Prabang is in an appalling state, in places barely passable. The 3-3.5 hour drive is very uncomfortable indeed even in a 4WD vehicle. Don't let that put you off, but be prepared!
