点评:The gallery is nice if expensive (I wish they hadn't done away with the one evening a month free entry which they had when it was the Jerwood). For years, you could only go into the cafe if you bought a ticket for the gallery, which was a bit mad. Recently, they've opened the cafe to anyone so we thought we'd drop in for coffee.
The coffee itself was fine but the server was so rude that it's put me off going back. There were only 2 other people in the cafe but he acted as if he was doing us a huge favour by serving us - he was really brusque and offhand. Another person came in, pointed and said, "What are those?". He said, "Cookies" very rudely, no elaboration as to what kind, then turned away. When it came to the bill, they'd automatically added a 12.5% service charge. I have never before had to pay service charge for a cup of coffee (and it wasn't cheap coffee) and I wasn't about to start now, with the service being so bad, so I asked for it to be deducted. The woman on the till didn't know how to do it so old misery guts had to come and show her. He sorted it out but didn't say a word to us then stalked off.
It's a shame because it's a lovely situation with a view over the sea. A friend visited another time and made the same comment about the offhand service. I'd recommend having coffee elsewhere!
